Welcome to World History

Welcome to World History! You are about to embark on a fun-filled journey through time. We don't study history to check it off of our list as a required high school subject, although you do have to do that, but we study it to understand where we came from and to see how God's plans unfolded. Why did we have so many wars? Why did Egyptians build gigantic pyramids? Why do so many cultures have different creation stories and religions? Why did Jerry Brown choose an abstract painting as his official portrait? These are all great questions to seek answers to. This year you will be historians unpacking these great questions.

I loved seeing familiar faces today and so many new ones. That was fun! I especially liked hearing what you can't live without. I am still laughing over some of them. I can already tell that this will be a great class. Any group that can laugh together at random things is a good group. Thank you for being willing to share your thoughts on history and current events. I know it can be intimidating to express an opinion in front of your peers, but it truly does make learning more fun. There are no bad opinions in my class. They might be different then mine or someone else's, but they help us all to consider things from different points of view. I am excited to spend the year with each of you.

This week you have a little bit of homework to do, but it should not be too bad. In fact, it should be pretty fun. As you read through the Unit this week, you will see that many cultures have different thoughts on creation. Some of them are quite comical. You can choose whichever culture or religion you want, and research their creation story. You can write a paragraph about it, draw a poster, create a comic strip, or anything else you can come up with. I love creativity, so don't be afraid to think outside the box.
